Trama

This book focuses on information literacy in higher education from Asian countries. It explores the changing concepts, philosophies, learning environments, and technological environments of information literacy and discusses how information literacy education in universities should be carried out in the context of the information literacy framework. It also analyses the research focus and trends of information literacy education in universities in the past ten years worldwide and Asia by using the bibliometric method as well as the information literacy education models of universities in Asian countries. In addition, this book also explains the current status of information literacy education and related issues in Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

The target audience of this book is mainly university librarians, school librarians, the faculty and students of library and information sciences, information education and technology education related departments worldwide.

Autore

Chao-Chen Chen is a Chair Professor of Center for General Education and serves as the University Librarian of Chung Yuan Christian University, and a Emeritus Professor, Graduate Institute of Library and Information Studies, 

National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). She has served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and University Librarian of NTNU, the President of Taiwan Profession Organization Development Network in Higher Education (TPOD). Based on her long-term engagement in developing students’ learning and teachers’ teaching, Prof. Chen has become an expert of the learning sciences in higher education. She has participated in the National Digital Archives Program of Taiwan over 10 years and has served as principal investigators (PI) for Teacher Librarian Training Projects of Taiwan over 12 years. She is the editor-in-chief of the Excellence in Higher Education Series of Taiwan Higher Education Press, and the editor-in-chiefof the Springer Series on Learning Sciences in Higher Education. These two series have published 7 books so far. Prof. Chen has also published over 100 academic journal articles and related monographs on knowledge organization, reading research, information literacy, and digital libraries.


Mei-Ling Wang is professor of the Graduate Institute of Library, Information and Archival Studies, National ChengChi University, and served as chairperson from 2007 to 2009 and CEO of E-learning Master Program of Library and Information Studies. She was director of Hsuang-Chuan University Library in 1999-2000. She received the PhD. And MA degrees in Library and Information Science from National Taiwan University, and BA in Library Science from the National Taiwan University. She is author of 4 books and more than 100 articles and technical reports covering international study on library and information science education, information literacy instruction, distance and online education, library evaluation, collection mangement. She also serves on the editorial board of library and information science related journals, including: (1) Journal of library and information science; (2) Journal of library and information studies.

Dr. Chu is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He has obtained 2 PhDs in Education – one focusing on e-Learning from University College London, Institute of Education  and another one focusing on Information and Library Science from HKU. His areas of expertise include AI literacy, gamified learning, 21st Century Skills, and Social Media in Education. He has involved in over 70 research projects with a total funding of US$ 10,214,144. He has published more than 400 articles and books, with over 120 of them appearing in international academic journals. Dr. Chu has received many awards including the Faculty Outstanding Researcher Award in 2013, Faculty’s Knowledge Exchange Award in 2016 and Excellent Health Promotion Project Award from Food and Health Bureau in 2017. He's ranked among the top 1% of scholars in research Information & Library Sciences (PLoS Biol 18(10), 2020, a study by Stanford University), and achieved an h-index of 42 over the years. He has been a Consultant for UNESCO Bangkok, Education Bureau in HK, Oxford University Press, Pearson Education Asia, and was the ASIS&T Director of Chapter Assembly (2020-2021). He is also an Advisor for EdTech startups at HK Science and Technology Parks and the Founding Chairman of Academy 22 Education for All Foundation.

Emi Ishita is a Professor at Kyushu University (Japan), with appointments in the Department of Library Science and Data Driven Innovation Initiative. She currently serves as the iSchool representative for Kyushu University. Dr. Ishita earned her Ph.D in Information Science from Kyushu University and her Master of Information Science from the University of Library and Information Science (Japan). Her research interests include application of text analysis to genre classification, computational archival science and computational social science, and Library and Information Science education. In computational social science research, her project team is working on reducing human annotation effort for content analysis. She has recently started some new work on research data curation in universities.

Kulthida TUAMSUK, D.A. in library and information science, Simmons College, USA., a professor and a senior researcher at the Department of Information Science, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and a Director of Smart Learning Innovation Research Centre, Khon Kaen University, Thailand.  Dr. Tuamsuk is well-known as an active committee and a member of national and international organizations and consortiums in Thailand and Asia Pacific.
