This book explores how speech and language therapists can use a wide range of multi-modal therapy techniques to elicit speech sound. Due to the nature of the approach, there is a limited evidence base in the area, so this book draws on the authors’ extensive experience, as well as testimonials from families who have been successfully supported by the approach, to offer a new and unique perspective for therapy. Karen Massey has worked as a children’s speech therapist in 2 NHS trusts as well as independently, including in special schools, community preschool and Autism Pathway assessments. She has additional training in Oral Placement Therapy, PECS, TEACCH, Signalong and Intensive Interaction. Karen is ADOS trained and has worked within both child and adult autism diagnostic teams. Karen is experienced in working with both high- and low-tech AAC. Gemma Lester is a specialist speech and language therapist in 3 NHS trusts as well as working independently with special schools, community preschool and Autism Pathway assessments. She has additional training in PECS, epilepsy, TEACCH, AAC, LAMP, BSL and Signalong. Gemma has attended a dysphagia management course as well as Oral Placement Therapy training. Gemma is ADOS trained and is also now working within adult ASD assessment. Gemma is experienced in working with both highand low-tech AAC.
