Nanomedicine, a scientific branch of nanotechnology that operates on the same scale as biology, offers the possibility of influencing the healing process from inside of the body by manipulating the matter at cellular or molecular levels. Throughout this book, current healing approaches based on this revolutionary new technology are summarized from a scientific assessment. The aim of the authors is to give, through select examples, a deep insight to nanotechnology status and the great progress that its rigorous application will bring to human health. Dr. Paula V. Messina is an Adjunct Professor in the area of Physical Chemistry at the Universidad Nacional del Sur (UNS) of Bahia Blanca, Buenos Aires, Argentina and an Independent Researcher of the National Council of Scientific and Technological Research (CONICET) of Argentina. She currently directs the group of "Nanostructured Materials" whose research focuses on the study and manipulation of nano-scale interactions at the interface of the Chemical, Physical and Biological fields. Dr. Luciano A. Benedini is a researcher of National Council of Scientific and Technological Research (CONICET) and an Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Biology, Biochemistry and Pharmacy Department of UNS, Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Currently, his research work focuses on the development of biopolymer composites, polymer hydrogels; polymer biodegradable wound dressings and drug delivery systems based on nanotechnology for biomedical applications. Pharmacist Damián Placente is a PhD student from the Department of Chemistry of the Universidad Nacional del Sur (UNS), Bahía Blanca, Argentina. He graduated in Pharmacy in 2017, and in the same year, the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) awarded him a scholarship to carry out his postgraduate studies. His research work focuses on the design, synthesis and characterization of multiple drug release systems with selective action on bone tissue under the supervision of Dr. Paula Messina.
