London's streets, built up over more than two thousand years, are a maze of history, cultures and stories. Stephen Walter, an artist native to the city, spent much of his youth exploring its diverse neighbourhoods and boroughs, translating the many elements that make up London into "The Island", a fantastically detailed and humorously insightful series hand-drawn maps, filled with words and symbols that show much more about the city than the locations of its winding streets and buildings: from the places of birth of important figures and sites of historic events, to witty observations about cultural and geographical stereotypes and fascinating facts.
