To ensure consistent global taxonomy, ICTV regularly updates and maintains the virus classification database. Currently, the ICTV oversees classification and taxonomy across all virus types, including those infecting vertebrates, invertebrates, protozoa, algae, fungi, bacteria, archaea, and higher plants.
