Professional Values and Practice Achieving the Standards for QTS

As well as demonstrating subject knowledge, students training to be teachers must now be able to demonstrate that they have the attitudes and commitment to be expected of anyone qualifying to be a teacher. The professional code of the General Teaching Council lists 8 new Standards which cover the following issues:
* Expectations, diversity and achievement
* Personal and professional values
* Values in the classroom
* Values, rights and responsibilities in the wider community
* The community of the school
* Professional relationships
* Personal and professional development
* Professional responsibility
This practical and accessible book takes each of these Standards in turn and using questions and activities describes what you need to know, understand and demonstrate in order to achieve the Professional Values and Practices Standards, as you work towards Qualified Teacher Status. The book also includes suggestions for further reading, designed to help you in your early professional development.

Jon Davison is Dean of Initial and Continuing Professional Development at the Institute of Education, University of London.
