Aimed at improving the awareness of effective conversion protocols and for developing innovative biomass conversion processes, this text was conceived as a collection of studies on state-of-art techniques and know-how for production of biofuels and chemicals from sustainable recycling of organic solid wastes. Topics in the text are discussed in terms of addressing recent advances, assessing and highlighting promising new methods or new technological strategies and direct conversion of organic solid wastes to process feeds. Highly-recognized authorities, experts and professionals have contributed individual chapters in selected areas to cover the overall topic in a comprehensive manner.
Part I: Introduction.- Chapter 1. Sustainable technologies for recycling organic solid wastes.- Part II: Production of Biofuels and Chemicals by Thermo-chemical Conversion Processes.- Chapter 2. Recent advances in the catalytic co-pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass and different polymer wastes: from laboratory scale to pilot plant.- Chapter 3. Roadmap to Low-Cost Catalytic Pyrolysis of Plastic Wastes for Production of Liquid Fuels.- Chapter 4. Richard L. Smith, Jr. is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Research Center of Supercritical Fluid Technology, Tohoku University, Japan. He has a strong background in physical properties and separations and holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA). His research focuses on developing green chemical processes, especially those that use water and carbon dioxide as the solvents in their supercritical state. He is an expert on physical property measurements and separation techniques with ionic liquids, and has published more than 270 scientific papers, patents and reports in the field of chemical engineering. Professor Smith is the Asia regional editor for the Journal of Supercritical Fluids and has served on the editorial boards of major international journals.
