"Political Restructuring in Europe" provides a theoretical background for examining the current political restructuring of Europe. The contributors a distinguished group of legal and constitutional scholars, political philosophers, and international relations theorists include such experts as Michael Walzer, Charles Beitz, Thomas Pogge, and Murray Forsyth. The collection also includes contributions from Poland and Croatia.
The essays examine issues such as the break-up of the former Soviet Union, the development of secessionist movements in Eastern and Central Europe, and the complex question of whether national movements are justified in using force. They also examine the efforts to unify Western Europe, and analyze the contrasting perspectives of Communitarianism and Cosmopolitanism. The book includes chapters which set the scene for the European topics by examining the political theory of Federalism and Cofederalism, and the legal background to Constitutionalism and Secession.
