Christopher Pollington spent more than 35 years as a top level administrator in the international world of scientific research. Following 12 years as Assistant Secretary General to the (then) European Organisation for Quality Control, he joined the International Council for Research and Annovation in Building and Construction (CIB) in 1977 retiring as Deputy Secretary General in 2000 with member institutes in some 100 countries worldwide CIB ranks among the truly global scientific research organisations. Throughout his career Chris Pollington's focus of interest has been on the optimal management of multi-national non-profit making scientific associations and on how best to capitalise for the general benefit on the enormous array of expertise they contain without infringing the proprietary rights involved. There is a plethora of media for the transfer of intellectual property across national boundaries but if it is to be effected without dilution account must be taken of many potential contaminants and barriers. Chris Pollington believes that it is the prime task of the international research manager to identify and zero in on these factors to neutralize their negative effects. An economics and finance graduate he was for more than 20 years Chief External Examiner at one of Rotterdam's Business Schools.
