This new title in the acclaimed BMJ Books series of evidence-based texts for practising clinicians covers the diagnosis and management of orthopedic conditions through to full surgical procedures such as hip and knee replacement. The book will review the best evidence for diagnostic testing and treatment, and provide recommendations for implementation in the clinical setting, taking the individual patient's needs into account. This approach is in line with the aims and goals of evidence-based practice, which are to achieve a uniform optimum standard in the specialty, in line with internationally accepted guidelines and according to best health economic principles. The condition led approach makes for easy access to specific procedures. Tables of evidence will summarise systematic reviews and randomised controlled trials, and authors will provide commentaries and recommendations for implementation in practice.
