This book is the culmination of three decades of accumulated experience in teaching biotechnology professionals. It distills the fundamental principles and essential knowledge of cell culture processes from across many different disciplines and presents them in a series of easy-to-follow, comprehensive chapters. Practicality, including technological advances and best practices, is emphasized. This second edition consists of major updates to all relevant topics contained within this work. The previous edition has been successfully used in training courses on cell culture bioprocessing over the past seven years. Wei-Shou Hu is a Distinguished McKnight University Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota. His education and research efforts focus on bioprocess engineering and systems biotechnology. He is the author of Engineering Principles in Biotechnology and co-author of the textbook Bioseparations. For over three decades, he has been an active member in the cell culture bioprocess community. He is the founder of both a popular training course in cell culture bioprocess technology and an important cell technology conference that served as an important forum for cell technology advancement.
