This volume presents the second collection of Daniel Bikas Rugs, created during 2024–2025—a continuation and evolution of the journey that began with the 2020–2023 collection. While the earlier body of work introduced a new visual language within Persian handmade rugs, this collection deepens and sharpens that vision, moving with greater clarity toward purpose and meaning.
At the heart of this book lies the foundation of the Mission Art Movement, a concept fully introduced in the opening chapter. This movement defines art not as passive decoration, but as an active force—carrying intention, message, and responsibility. Each rug within this collection is conceived as a medium of communication, designed to engage with the viewer beyond aesthetics.
The works are presented in two distinct yet complementary categories. The portrait rugs demonstrate an extraordinary level of precision and craftsmanship, achieving a degree of detail that closely approaches photographic realism. These pieces honor individuals through form, texture, and depth, capturing not only likeness but presence.
In contrast, the abstract rugs explore a more interpretive and symbolic dimension. Woven primarily in silk, these works embrace a wide range of subjects—political, philosophical, social, and environmental—expressed through geometry, color, and composition. They invite reflection rather than recognition, opening space for personal interpretation and dialogue.
Together, these two directions form a unified narrative: one grounded in representation, the other in abstraction; one capturing the visible, the other revealing the conceptual. Both, however, are bound by a single intention—to redefine the role of the Persian handmade rug as a contemporary artistic medium with a mission.
