What is Ecological Economics
Ecological economics, also known as bioeconomics, ecolonomy, eco-economics, or ecol-econ, is a branch of academic research that addresses the interaction and coevolution of human economies and natural ecosystems, both in terms of time and space. It is a transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary field of study. By distinguishing itself from environmental economics, which is the conventional approach to analyzing the environment from an economic standpoint, the area of ecological economics distinguishes itself by understanding the economy as a subsystem of the greater ecosystem that exists on Earth and by placing an emphasis on the protection of natural capital. According to the findings of a poll conducted among German economists, ecological economics and environmental economics are distinct schools of thought in the field of economics. Ecological economists place a great emphasis on sustainability and reject the idea that natural capital can be replaced by physical capital that is created by humans.
