King René is little known beyond France, yet, through his controversial daughter Margaret of Anjou, he affected events in England during the Wars of the Roses. René's court rivalled Burgundy in its rich artistic culture and his claim to the kingdom of Naples started a process that led to enormous changes in the power structure of Southern Europe.

AUTORE

MARGARET KEKEWICH  taught History in schools, adult education and, until retirement, the Open University where she was a Senior Lecturer in Arts. She has published books and articles on advisers to princes such as Sir John Fortescue and Niccolò Macchiavelli, on the Lancastrian court in exile, and, with Susan Rose, on Britain, France and the Empire, 1350-1500.
