Although international suburban development has been the subject of many economic, environmental and social texts there are no books that compare and analyze the actual form of international suburbs and peripheral developments. This book offers a framework and method for understanding these physical changes. The focus of all the chapters is the physical form of the suburbs, which has received considerable attention in the US and in the UK but has yet to be examined as an international issue. These chapters demonstrate that suburban and peripheral development is a global phenomenon with interesting continuities despite cultural differences.
