The book covers advances in critical care pediatric nephrology, including care of sick children with acute kidney injury. The book contains detailed guidance on point of care ultrasound in children with acute kidney injury and use of biomarkers in critically sick children.

This is an annual theme-based book with the current theme of 'point of care ultrasound in critical care pediatric nephrology and newer diagnostics in acute kidney injury'. This is the first book of the set of books to be published annually with a different theme related to critical care pediatric nephrology each year with the collaboration of the Pediatric Continous Renal Replacement Therapy (PCRRT) Foundation and International Collaboration of Nephrologists & Intensivists for Critical Care in Children (ICONIC). This annual updates book contains 20 chapters, written and edited by leading experts in pediatric intensive care, pediatric nephrology and nephrologists specializing in point of care ultrasound fromacross the globe. It includes top studies in the last few years in critical care pediatric nephrology on point of care ultrasound and diagnostics. Chapters cover scientifically updated information by international experts on each topic.

Autore


Dr Sidharth Kumar Sethi is currently consultant, pediatric nephrology and renal transplant medicine, Kidney and Urology Institute, Medanta, The Medicity, India. He was trained as a fellow (International Pediatric Nephrology Association Fellowship) and senior resident in pediatric nephrology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, India and Division of Pediatric Nephrology and Transplant Immunology, Cedars Sinai Medical Centre, Los Angeles, California. He has been a faculty at multiple meetings on pediatric acute kidney injury and pediatric dialysis nationally and internationally. His main areas of interests are acute kidney injury, dialysis and pediatric renal transplantation. He has been actively involved in the care of children with all kinds of complex renal disorders, including acute kidney injury, dialysis, nephrotic syndrome, tubular disorders, urinary tract infections, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and renal transplantation. He has been apart of 8-member writing committee for the Indian guidelines of Steroid Sensitive Nephrotic Syndrome and expert committee involved in the formulation of guidelines of pediatric renal disorders including Steroid Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome and urinary tract infections. He has many indexed publications in pediatric nephrology and chapters in reputed nephrology textbooks. He is currently the Editor of Journal of Clinical Pediatric Nephrology. He was awarded in 2014 by Case Western Reserve University, for his outstanding contributions to the field.

Dr. Rupesh Raina is currently a combined adult and pediatric nephrologist and director of medical research and scholarly activity and associate program director of internal medicine at Akron General Medical Center at Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Akron Children’s Hospital, USA. He is also a faculty and research staff at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, USA. Dr. Raina is a council member forUniversity Council of Deans at Northeast Ohio Medical University, USA. His special interest includes the development of medical curriculum and case based workshop to enhance clinical knowledge of the medical students and residents. He had trained many basic scientists and clinical researchers from the United States and abroad. Dr. Raina’s current research interest includes the pathophysiology and preventive methods of progression of renal cystic disease, transition of nephrology care from pediatrics to adults, renal replacement therapy and high flow ultrafiltration for management of inborn error of metabolism. He has published many journal articles, editorial and book chapters relating to biomedical research and clinical activities. He is currently the medical advisory board member for the National Kidney Foundation, fellow for the American College of Physicians, fellow American Association of Pediatrics, fellow and board member of National Kidney Foundation and fellow of American Society of Nephrology. 

Prof. Mignon McCulloch is currently a pediatric nephrologist and consultant at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, Cape Town, as well as a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She is also an honorary consultant at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, United Kingdom.  

Her interests include developing pediatric nephrology and care of critically ill children, specifically acute kidney injury (AKI), and all forms of dialysis in infants and children especially in poorly resourced regions, adolescent transition and pediatric transplantation (renal, liver and cardiac). 

She is the current president elect of the International Pediatric Transplantation Association (IPTA), assistant secretary of International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) and president of the African Pediatric Nephrology Association.  

She is actively involved in the ‘Saving Young Lives (SYL)’ steering committee – providing hands-on training in pediatric dialysis to teams of doctors and nurses at residential courses, including bedside PD catheter insertion, vascular access training, basic resuscitation and all forms of dialysis.

Dr. Timothy E Bunchman is currently tenured professor and division chief, Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), USA. His primary departmental program area is pediatric nephrology. He is trained in pediatric nephrology from University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. His areas of expertise and interest are pediatric transplantation, acute kidney injury, renal replacement therapy and vasculitis. He has published papers in international journals and contributed chapters in books on pediatric nephrology and pediatric critical care. He has multiple awards to his credit and has been nominated by the American Society ofPedia
