Dog Breeding – A Handbook for a Responsible Breeder is a framework that proposes some of the latest scientific findings, techniques and information in dog breeding. It summarizes research and studies regarding dog genetics, bitch mating and the birthing of puppies and their subsequent care.
Much of the information found online is written by non-specialists which causes the spread of inaccurate or misleading information which can prove to have grave consequences for breeders and their dogs. Moreover, this handbook’s objective is to provide dynamic approaches to the field of dog breeding, and all the information contained within should carefully be considered while evaluating the most effective techniques and practices in dog breeding. Pairing the research and information within this handbook with the love and attention of the breeder, it’s hoped that potential breeders make informed, well thought out decisions in the best interest of their dogs and for more optimal results.
Evžen Korec, MSc., Ph.D., is a director and head of the research group at the Tabor Zoo. He is the owner of the Korec Corso Kennel, where he breeds dogs of the Cane Corso breed, as well as acting as the chairman of the Cane Corso club Czech Republic.
He graduated in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the Faculty of Science at Charles University. He worked as a researcher at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Science, where he received a Ph.D. in Oncology. He has done research at top European institutes such as at the University of Göttingen in Germany and at the Pasteur institute in Paris.
He is a co-author of 11 patents and several dozen research articles published in the world’s leading scientific journals. Plus, he is a co-author of seven books.
