Note Editore
Developers use Apache, MySQL, Memcached and Perl to build dynamic websites that store information within the MySQL database. The popular Slashdot.org website is a good example of a website that uses these components. The perl code creates the pages you see when accessing the site as well as create the functionality that retrieves or stores information to or from the database. This book focuses on how this is done with Perl as the "glue" that makes it all work, MySQL and Memcached as where the data is stored, and Apache the server the hosts this functionality. Memcached is covered in this book as it is an ever-increasingly popular memory cache server. It's simply a memory server that allows you to store data in that you don't want to tax the database with providing. This book will start out covering each system showing the reader how to install, set up, and administer these systems, giving background about each. The book will then show the user how to put each of these together to start building applications, showing the benefits of a base perl library for code re-use. The book will then show some sample applications that demonstrate in a practical way the information that the previous chapters covered. Next, monitoring, performance and security will be covered. Lastly, there will be a problem-solving chapter with real-life problems and the process of how the reader might solve them.
